Challenge: In March 2020 Kesslers were approached to develop a series of protective screens for deployment in Supermarket Checkouts, Customer Service Desks and Convenience Kiosks, designing, prototyping and trialling the fixtures with the customer in record time. We worked 24/7 to roll out the screens, for the protection of colleagues and customers in store, manufacturing in Stratford and installing in all Convenience Stores across the country.
Shortly afterwards we were challenged to support with ways of improving the customer experience and queue times in store, so we devised series of protective divider screens for Supermarket Belted Checkouts and Self-Checkout Tills. The designs were created, prototyped and trialled in 10 stores in conjunction with the Sainsbury’s team, before being quickly rolled out to the store estate, reducing stress for shoppers and increasing safety. A huge obstacle to overcome was securing the materials required for the project at a time when demand for acrylic was at an all time high and we had to ensure that we designed items which were robust but also made best use of the material and time that was available.
We were able to take these learnings and apply them to the re-opening or Argos stores, developing solutions for each of the Browser Table variants and manufacturing and installing till and table solutions for every open store in the country on accelerated timescales, in order to support stores ahead of the busy Black Friday and Christmas trading periods.
The final part of the suite of equipment were Sanitisation Stations, designed in four formats for use in Supermarkets, smaller Convenience Stores, Cafés and Argos Stores. As the pandemic response changed at the end of 2020, we further supported the team by rolling out a further 5000+ stations, shipping to every store in the estate, to provide greater support for colleagues and customers and delivering an upgraded design in new colourways.
