1926

Kesslers London Ltd.

The business flourished and, by 1910, Bernhard began to export his goods, which now included umbrella handles and walking sticks in wood, metal and horn. Great Britain soon became a major market for Kessler umbrella handles so that in 1926 a London branch, Bernhard Kessler and Sons, opened in Bath Street on the edge of the City. Bernhard's son, Leopold, managed the thriving London business. With the increased numbers of motor cars the use of umbrellas and walking sticks was decreasing so Leopold found other outlets for the company's skills. He specialised in designing and making wooden showcases and counters - the first account was with the American Parker Pen Company who had recently entered the British market. In 1932 the growing business moved to larger premises in Stoke Newington, North London.
