Bernhard Kessler opens a workshop in Vienna.

Bernhard Kessler was born in 1872. By the time he was 20 he had completed his apprenticeship as a craftsman in wood and won a prize from the Viennese Turner's Guild and Society of Viennese Craftsmen. Having learned from leading master craftsmen he quickly became a much sought after designer of wooden luxury goods and set up his own business in a small room at 49 Friedmans Lane in Vienna.
