Clerkenwell Design Week

Our team of creative designers and technical engineers regularly attend design-inspired exhibitions, to ensure we continuously provide our clients with forward thinking design and industry leading display innovations.

Clerkenwell Design Week is a particular event our designers across the business look forward to annually and 2015 didn’t disappoint.

Here, our Senior Technical Designer, Neil Harrison, gives a rundown of the 2015 exhibition highlights.

“With so much to see I focused on two main exhibits the “Design Factory”, in the atmospheric Farmiloe Building and “Platform” which was located in the basement cells of a former gaol – very wacky!”

“In terms of overall trends, across both exhibits, the emphasis was on natural materials – woods, leather, metals like copper and brass. All very classic and high-end – with modern forms and detail. Colour was used boldly across many of the exhibits.”

Here’s the top 7 exhibits that caught our eye:

  1. Concrete

Exploiting the qualities of concrete with smooth surfaces and cast-in pattern detail for retail display podiums, kitchens, wall panelling etc.

  1. Giant Meccano Furniture

If you like the aesthetic, you can build almost any furniture from a basic kit of parts. In a more sophisticated form it could be the basis of modular retail furniture.

  1. Renault

Main sponsors – great set of concept cars with fluid lines and some neat styling details like tyre side walls carrying through the wheel shapes to give the impression that the wheel itself is in contact with the road.
